Bringing the employees back to office campuses, Infosys has introduced a new work-from-office policy forcing employees to work at least 10 days a month from the office.
This directive, announced on March 5, is part of the company's efforts to revive physical work after the widespread adoption of virtual work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under the proposed policy, a new attendance mechanism is being put in place by Infosys, where the priority will be on the needs of projects rather than requests from departments. Earlier, employees had the option of requesting work-from-home through a mobile application, which would instantly approve.
Under the new attendance scheme, colleagues will not get an automatic approval for work-from-home requests, and they are expected to be present physically at the office for attendance for 10 days in a month.
The new directive will apply to all employees at the level of job 5 (JL5) and below, primarily software engineers, systems engineers, and consultants. Team leaders at JL5 level will also be subjected to the rule, while employees at higher grades (JL6 onward) will no longer have to follow this work-from-office rule.
The objective is to maintain a fine balance between flexibility and operation requirements. An email addressed to employees stated that system interventions would limit the application of work-from-home days starting from March 10, 2025, thereby ensuring adherence to the new hybrid work model.
Infosys, along with other tech companies, embraced its remote working culture during the pandemic. Now, however, the company has decided to reduce work-from-home days owing to a slowdown in business growth, moonlighting cases, and the need for fostering better team bonding.
